You do actually only need to wire the two wires to make the engine run. This one has that additional third wire if you want to power headlights, blinkers and/or other 12 volt accessories but it is not actually needed. I've attached a good wiring diagram that may help better see how it all wires to engine. Hope this helps if you have any questions feel free to reach out to us.
