To replace the pads you will need to remove the caliper. The pads themselves are held in by magnets if circular and retaining clips if square. If the brakes are hydraulic the pads will likely have a retainer xxxx that hold them in. The key point to maintaining disc brakes is to perfectly align them. While the caliper is still not screwed in , but held in place by the screws, pull the brake handle, so the caliper clamps around the disk and straightens perfectly. Then while holding the handle, tighten down the caliper screws.
