The carburetor shim is a thin sleeve, ring, or spacer to help make the carburetor fit tightly on the engines intake manifold. During install if you notice a tiny gap where the carb is attached, using an adaptor shim or spacer will help seal this gap to avoid any air leaks or issues with starting your engine.
